## What is Treasure Hunt?

A **Treasure Hunt** slide is a review game for a whole class. You give it a set of questions — written by AI from a topic, pasted, imported from your quiz slides or typed — and every student plays through them **at their own pace** on their phone. Every right answer opens one of three treasure chests: gold, ×2 or ×3, a chance to **steal** from or **swap** gold with another player, an empty chest or a dragon that eats some gold. When the time runs out, the richest player wins. The luck keeps every student in the race until the end, while the questions do the real work: students answer far more questions than in a one-question-at-a-time quiz, and a question they miss comes back a few questions later (retrieval practice with spacing). At the end you get a **class report** with the accuracy and the questions the class found hardest.

## Create a Treasure Hunt slide

1. On **Home**, click + Create new presentation (or add a slide to an existing one).
2. In **Choose Slide Type**, pick **Treasure Hunt**. You can also type it into Search slide types….
3. The slide is created and the right panel opens on the **Content** tab.

## Set up the content

1. A new Treasure Hunt slide starts with a **sample deck** of 12 mixed questions (science, geography, maths, language), so you can try it straight away. A yellow note reminds you to make the deck your own.
2. Click Generate with AI, type a **topic** (for example The water cycle), pick the **level** (Primary school, Middle school, High school, University, Adults / training) and **how many** questions (5, 10, 15 or 20), and click **Generate**. The questions are written in your interface language and replace the sample deck; later batches are added to your deck. Always read them before you play.
3. Or click Paste list and paste one question per line: Question | \*Right answer | Wrong | Wrong (the **\*** marks the right answer; without it the first answer is right).
4. Already have Select Answer or True or False quiz slides in this presentation? Click From quiz slides → **Add them** to copy them into the deck.
5. Click a question to open it: edit the text and the 2–4 answers, click the shape next to an answer to mark it right, **Make true / false**, move it up or down, or delete it. **Add question** adds a blank one. A deck holds up to 50 questions; 8–20 work best.
6. Under **Settings**, choose the **Game time** and whether to use **Kind mode**.

## Treasure Hunt settings

- **Game time** — 3, 5 (default), 8 or 10 minutes. Everyone plays at their own pace until the time is up. While playing you can add a minute (**+1 min**) or end early (**End game**).
- **Kind mode** — Off (default): chests can also steal 10–25 % of another player’s gold, swap gold with a player, or let a dragon eat 10–25 % of yours, so the race stays open until the end. On: chests only give gold, ×2 or ×3 — nobody can lose gold. Good for younger classes.
- **Questions** — Multiple-choice (2–4 answers, one right) or true / false. Each student gets the deck in their own order; a missed question comes back three questions later, and the deck starts again in a new order when they finish it.

## Present & share the join code

1. Click **Present** in the top bar to put the slide on the big screen.
2. A **join code** and a **QR code** appear (e.g. `36Y56`).
3. Participants open the **Audience** app at **join.engageslide.com**, type the code and press **Enter** — or simply scan the QR.
4. When everyone has joined, the responses start flowing in live.

## How the audience responds

Students join with your code and see _You’re in!_ with the chest types they can find. When you press START, every phone shows its own first question with big coloured answer buttons. A right answer shows **Right! Pick a chest** and three shaking chests; the student taps one and it opens: _+50 gold!_, _×2! +120 gold_, _Empty chest…_ or _A dragon took 30 gold!_ — and the phone shows what the other two chests held. A steal or swap chest lists the richest players to pick from. A wrong answer shows **Not quite!** with the right answer marked in green; the question comes back later. The top of the phone always shows the student’s gold, their live rank, a streak after three right answers in a row and the time left. If someone steals from or swaps with them, a banner says so. At the end each phone shows the student’s place, gold, right answers and best streak.

## View results

Before the game the big screen shows a glowing treasure chest, the rules, how many questions and minutes the game has, Kind mode if it is on, and the players who joined. During the game it shows the **Richest players** leaderboard (top 10) with gold bars that move as the gold changes, a big countdown, the number of answers and the class accuracy, and **Treasure news**: steals, swaps, multipliers, big finds and dragons as they happen. When the time is up (or you press **End game**), the results show a podium with the top three and the rest of the class, next to a **Class report**: the number of answers, the percentage right and up to three **Review these** questions — the ones the class got wrong most often, with the right answer — so you know what to go over next.

> **Tip** — Treasure Hunt is a great way to start or end a unit: 5 minutes, 15–20 questions, and the class report tells you which ideas to revisit. Because gold also depends on luck, the students who know the most don’t always win — which is exactly why everyone keeps trying.

## Ways to use Treasure Hunt

- **Revision before a test:** generate 20 questions on the unit and play for 8 minutes.
- **Homework check:** paste the homework questions and see in the class report what needs another lesson.
- **Language classes:** vocabulary and grammar decks in the language you teach.
- **Training and onboarding:** turn product or policy facts into a 5-minute game; switch Kind mode on for a friendly room.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can students see the right answer before they answer?

No. The phones only receive the question and the answers; the game checks the answer in the presenter window and only then shows whether it was right.

### Does the fastest student always win?

No. Gold comes from chests, which are partly luck: a student with fewer right answers can win with a ×3 or a well-timed steal. That keeps everyone motivated — but every chest still has to be earned with a right answer.

### What happens with a question a student gets wrong?

They see the right answer, get no chest, and the same question comes back three questions later — so they get a second chance to remember it.

### Can students join after the game has started?

Yes. Treasure Hunt is self-paced, so a late student starts answering as soon as they join.

### What does Kind mode change?

With Kind mode on, chests never steal, swap or lose gold — they only give gold or multiply it. Use it with younger students or when you want a gentler game.

### What if I refresh the presenting window?

Keep the editor open while you present: the game, the gold and the class report carry on in the new window. If the presenting window was the only one, the game goes back to the start screen.

### Does the gold count for the quiz leaderboard?

No. Treasure Hunt is a game: gold depends partly on luck, so it has its own results and doesn’t change your quiz leaderboard. Use quiz slides for scores that count.
